I released this project in November of 2012 and the response I’ve gotten from it has been overwhelming. The sort of numb high you get when you achieve a victory has sensed worn off. As I look back on the process it took to create this, I feel like we (everyone involved in the process) have created something so original that no one can take from us. We made a project without the outside influence of trying to sound like something else.
Now as time has passed I can actually listen to this album WITHOUT critiquing the creative process, WITHOUT analyzing the mixing, WITHOUT trying to deconstruct the art into genre boxes. I now listen to this album as a fan.
I am a fan of Autopilot “long dicking” his way through his verse on Slow Down.
I am a fan of the way Ed Nino captured the essence of my frustration with the music industry on King’s Currency.
I am a fan of Wizdom Selah dropping knowledge beyond the confines of a book.
I am a fan of Suport painting a picture of the bar scene he graciously walked away from.
I am a fan of Venson’s talent on the mic and with the sax.
I am a fan of everyone involved.
And I rarely toot my own horn but ultimately I am a fan of myself, mainly from being so depressed about the music scene and how the artists I looked up to, keep disappointing. I am a fan of myself having the balls to make something that should have been made 5 years ago.
So as the culture digresses, I’ll keep progressing the art and life of real people, because real people made this project great. We are creating because the so called leaders of this world of hip hop are not.
